Activated alumina: Is a high-surface-area, highly porous form of aluminum oxide. It can adsorb gases and liquids without changing its form. It works as a desiccant through adsorption. As air passes through the alumina, the water in the air sticks it and becomes trapped and air that passes through an activated alumina filter is dried out. Even immersed in a liquid.
Silica Gel: Silica gel may also be used to keep the relative humidity inside a high frequency radio or satellite transmission system waveguide as low as possible. Excessive moisture buildup within a waveguide can cause arcing inside the waveguide itself, damaging the power amplifier feeding it. Also, the beads of water that form and condense inside the waveguide change the characteristic impedance and frequency, degrading the signal.

THE PURPOSE OF OUR GOAL: To find easier ways using biotechnology to get rid of mildew in homes, bathrooms, basements and other areas where mildew accumulates. Additionally, we will be using biotechnology specifically analyzing and producing enzymes that can breakdown mildew easily and more efficiently.
7 Types of Mildew
- Commonly known to be on wood, and causes dry rotting. Dry rotting can cause spores to grow which turn into toadstools and mushrooms. If eaten, the mushrooms can be very poisonous, and the toadstools as well as the mushrooms can both cause severe allergic reactions.
Botrytis - Found in pants and in green houses due to high humidity. Can cause asthmatic symptoms.
Aspergillus - Found in areas that are damaged by water and can cause severe allergic reactions and lung infections.
Aureobasidium - Commonly known as “bathroom mold”, and is found on bathtubs, caulk, windows, and showers
Rhizopus - Found in garbage, house dirt, and food. It can cause asthmatic symptoms, lung lesions skin irritations and vomiting.
Wallemia - Found in dust in the home, this type of mildew is harmless, but can cause severe allergic reactions.
Fusarium - Found in areas that experience flood. Can cause cold like symptoms, and resemble asthma like symptoms.
